It was then discovered that two clean, flat surfaces of similar metal would strongly adhere (stick) if brought into contact under vacuum.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Cold welding is a solid-state welding process in which joining takes place without fusion at the interface of the two parts to be welded. Unlike in the fusion-welding processes, no liquid or molten phase is present in the joint.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span owner="" class="owner" type="INSERT"&gt;Cold welding, the joining of materials without the use of heat, can be accomplished simply by pressing them together. They are also effective as &lt;span class="mw-redirect"&gt;anxiolytics&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span class="mw-redirect"&gt;hypnotics&lt;/span&gt; and as anticonvulsants. They have addiction potential, both physical and psychological. Barbiturates have now largely been replaced by &lt;span class="mw-redirect"&gt;benzodiazepines&lt;/span&gt; mainly because benzodiazepines are significantly less dangerous in overdose. Barbiturates are derivatives of barbituric acid.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On May 3, 1987 Dalida died as a result of an overdose of barbiturates, leaving a suicide note reading "&lt;i&gt;Life has become unbearable ...
